Which music?
Selecting music for a civil ceremony
In musical terms, the format of a civil wedding is quite similar to that
of a religious wedding.
Whether you're "church" or "civil", you'll need to
choose some music for the entrance of the bride, for the signing of the
register and for the recessional at the end of the ceremony.
Although you aren't allowed to choose any religious music (see our page
on the
law for further info), there's still a huge choice available to you.
Browse this section of our web site for ideas for each part of the ceremony.
We've done the research for you - everything that we've suggested can
definitely be performed at a civil wedding. So if you choose one of these
pieces, and your Registrar objects, please let us know, and we'll explain
to them why the piece is permissible!
Once you've chosen your music, you'll want someone to perform it. Our
wonderful musicians
have played at dozens of civil weddings, and so are hugely experienced
in this highly specialised field.
