A lively ceilidh is a great way to unite guests of all ages on the dancefloor. A good band will include a friendly, engaging (though not too pushy) caller to talk your guests through each dance so that everyone can join in, even if they have no ceilidh dancing experience.
Here is a live recording to give you an idea of what our ceilidh bands sound like - and the response they get from the dancers:
If you’d like to have a ceilidh at your reception, remember that most popular dances (eg Dashing White Sergeant, Strip the Willow, Eightsome Reel) require a good deal of space.
If there is less than around 25ft square available for dancing (not including the band’s performance area) then things are likely to get a bit too cosy!
Ceilidh bands typically consist of 3-6 musicians. They are fully self-contained, providing their own PA and recorded music during their breaks.
If you like the idea of a ceilidh band, but also want some variety, why not compile an iPod playlist of more contemporary music for the band to put on during their breaks?
the ceilidh band inspired everyone to take part and the caller had the marvellous knack of making us all feel like competent dancers rather than inexperienced amateurs! Many of the guests have told me how much they enjoyed the dancing and how impressed they were by the band. Very many thanks.
