Dancing couple at wedding party

When planning your evening entertainment, the first question is whether to go for a band or a DJ.

Many couples prefer to book a band because it’s hard to beat the atmosphere generated by great live music. Having said this, you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a fantastic evening, and booking a DJ rather than a band means that you get to hear the original versions of the songs and you can have a much greater input into the playlist for the evening.

Other factors to consider include the number of guests you’re expecting (if your wedding is comparatively small, a DJ could well be a better option for you), the amount of time you have to fill (do you need a band and a DJ maybe?) and the performing space available (DJs are normally pretty compact, whereas bands can take up rather more space).

A good DJ will cost about as much as a very mediocre band and a good band will cost three to four times as much as a good DJ. And do bear in mind that there’s no such thing as a good, cheap DJ or band: they’re either good or cheap. Never both.
